Guidance for families

Worried about an ageing parent living at home?

It can be difficult to know where to start. LIVKIND helps families talk through practical home challenges and develop a manageable plan around the older person's priorities.

Start with their wishes, not assumptions

When an older parent seems to be struggling at home, adult children may notice changes before the parent wants assistance. The first step is to listen and establish what they find difficult, what remains important to them and which decisions they would welcome help with.

Feeling worried does not mean a move to residential care is inevitable. Equally, being determined to remain at home does not make every risk manageable without specialist input.

Five useful questions to explore together

  • Are stairs, bathrooms, entrances or everyday household tasks becoming difficult?
  • Is routine maintenance being postponed or becoming stressful?
  • Who is available locally when an urgent practical issue arises?
  • Have future preferences and important contacts been discussed?
  • Does the family know which questions need professional clinical, legal or financial advice?

How LIVKIND can help

We can organise practical questions into a structured Home Independence Review, discuss the home's day-to-day usability, help prioritise tasks and explore coordination of suitable independent providers. Our service is based in Medway for selected locations around Kent, including families whose adult children live farther away.

A practical first step

Our proposed £495 joint Home Independence Review creates a written, prioritised starting plan. It is not a medical assessment or a commitment to ongoing care.

Common family questions

Can I ask for help if I live outside Kent?

Yes. You can contact us on behalf of a parent living within our proposed Kent service area, but the person's consent and involvement remain important.

Does LIVKIND provide carers?

No. LIVKIND is a planning and practical coordination service, not a regulated home-care agency.

What if the situation is urgent?

For immediate safety, health or safeguarding risks, contact the appropriate emergency, NHS or local-authority services rather than waiting for a consultancy enquiry response.
